Competition for 2008 Arts and Science Prizes for Persons of Lithuanian Origin Living Outside of Lithuania.
Lithuania’s ministry of Education (LSMM) has announced the 2008 competition for arts and science prizes for persons of Lithuanian origin living outside of Lithuania. Candidates wishing to participate in this competition are invited to submit by e-mail designated documents through their country’s Lithuanian communities to Lithuania’s ministry of education. In those countries in which a Lithuanian community does not exist, the candidate should submit the required documents directly to the ministry at the below listed address.
Required documents and prizes
1. Applicants must have academic degrees in arts in sciences from recognized educational institutions. The eligibility is limited to Lithuanian citizens who have been residents in foreign countries for a minimum of 3 years, and/or applicants of Lithuanian origin as verified by a certification issued by the country’s Lithuanian community of their current residence.

3. Applicant should apply for only one of the five following prizes:
Prize for achievements in the fields of humanities and social sciences during the last 10 years,
Prize for achievements in the fields of physical, biomedical sciences and technologies, during the last 10 years,
Prize for lifetime achievements in the fields of humanities and social sciences,
Prize for lifetime achievements in the fields of physical, biomedical sciences and technologies,
Prize for achievements in sciences and research and their direct advancement in cooperation with Lithuanian institutions of science and/or humanities or individuals working in those fields .
(Applicants for all prizes, where possible, should provide sample evidence of cooperation with Lithuania’s academic and/or scientific institutions and/or collaboration with their individual members. The application should also include at least two recommendations from either their current supervisors or their professional colleagues who have thorough knowledge of the applicant’s achievements)
4. Applicants residing in the U.S. should submit their documents by January 29, 2008, via e-mail to (Bstasys@aol.com) in WORD format, double space, Times Roman 12 or ARIAL 10 font size, not exceeding 8 pages. All others should submit their applications to Lithuania’s ministry of education through their country’s Lithuanian communities as listed in the internet under www.PLBe.org. The ministry will not accept applications from individuals without them being transmitted through a particular country’s Lithuanian community. If submitted in Lithuanian language, special letter subscripts and overscripts are not essential. Application submissions are recommended in Lithuanian, but English will be accepted under exceptional circumstances.
